Australia Cruise Past Italy
2009-06-13 18:40:00
Unlike their Tri Nation cousins, Australia would not get bit by the upset bug as the Wallabies cruised to an easy 31-8 victory over Italy at the Canberra Stadium. 18 year old fullback James O’Connor scored 3 tries in his debut match.  Matt Giteau and Stirling Mortloc each added a try. Giteau kicked three conversions. Italy ...

Attacks By Hooligans Against Foreign Students In Australia
2009-06-05 01:06:00
In relation to attacks against foreign students in Australia, there are some tough questions. The issue is complex, and not as portrayed either by certain sections of the Indian media and zealots nor by an isolated but powerful and disgraceful class of radio biggots and their poorly-educated audiences we have in Australia, known as 'shock jocks'. No amount of misrepresentation can alter the facts that most Australians do not engage in nor approve of racism. Many who have migrated to this country from a great many countries attest to this fact. I offer some questions - very preliminary - that I think my fellow Australians will need to consider:
Indian Students Attacked In Melbourne Australia: Cricket Star Brett Lee Voi
2009-06-03 21:46:00
Brett Lee is a prominent example of strong ties between India and Australia. It is good that someone with his credibility has stepped forward to bring calm to the situation following recent attacks on Indian students in Melbourne. Unless leaders with credibility in both countries make their voices heard, discussions about the relative roles played by racism and sheer, opportunistic street thuggery looking for "soft targets" will not have a proper chance to be heard.
Attacks Against Indian Students in Melbourne, Australia
2009-06-02 00:16:00
There have been attacks against Indian students in Melbourne, Australia. Yesterday's news reported what is alleged to have been a peaceful demonstration waylaid by a small number of anti-social elements. This blog recently reported Channel NineMSN's exposure of security personnel violence against protesting staff and disabled clients at SWARA in Brisbane. Reports that suggest the Melbourne protest was derailed by over-reaction of authorities, brought back eery reminders of those accounts which a number of those involved (including those who remain Sathya Sai Baba devotees) have given.

Australians confirm new Coyote 5 liter V-8 for Falcon
2009-05-19 03:35:00
According to the Drive website http://www.drive.com.au/Editori-al/ArticleDetail.aspx?ArticleID-=62920, Ford of Australia has let it slip that they will start using the new 5 liter V-8 code-named Coyote sometime in 2010. Chances are that it will already be offered in the Mustang at that point, as shown in the near-production prototype pictures below (note the use of the 2010 Mustang GT air intake system). The Coyote is rumored to make 400 horses and 400 torque, although the technical specs are not at all clear. A DOHC design is obvious, and this prototype appears to use port fuel injection instead of the more desirable and more powerful (and cleaner) direct injection. Very clearly the engine does not use central direct injection. Twin sensors on each bank would suggest independently variable intake and exhaust cam timing. And 80 HP/liter is hardly state of the art - this engine is clearly focused on cleanliness rather than pure power. We should have an answer to th...

Taurus SHO vs. Falcon XR6T - Australians weigh in
2009-02-15 17:42:00
The current Australian Falcon has a long and beloved performance history, supports local preferences with a rear wheel drive (RWD) architecture, and all importantly - to the Australians - is home grown. The XR6T version (4 liter inline 6, with turbocharger) is the current high water mark of performance - even bettering the version of the same car equipped with the 5.4 liter DOHC V-8 (roughly similar to the SVT Cobra R 5.4 engine, although with some differences). The XR6T is an attractive and desirable car.... although somewhat dated by European standards. The current Falcon is a "top hat" update to the previous car, retaining a fairly old architecture and suspension. The new body shell and minor updates were conceived as a short-term and inexpensive fix, until a new RWD platform came to fruition around 2012 that would meet worldwide standards. The Falcon platform had been briefly considered for export but had too many technical issues for worl...

Sathya Sai Cult Under Media Scutiny In Australia

Sathya Sai Baba Cult Exposure By Major TV Channel In Australia
2009-01-29 04:14:00
What is the effect on the wider society of a wealthy, worldwide cult such as the International Sathya Sai Organization? A surprise packet for the Sathya Sai Organization is about to unwrap. For those interested in seeing attempts by this powerful cult at damage-control and cover up, this will be an event worth watching. But of course, it is a secret organization - therefore, one may miss out on some of the crucial action. Nonetheless, it is important to prevent governments from being soft on cults. Governments who protect cults need, too, to be stood up to. Hiding from the issue of cults does not further the cause of religious freedom but actually threatens it over the long term.

Molta gente è rimasta delusa dall?ennesimo ?polpettone?. Condivido solo in parte.

Driving in Australia: The definitive guide
2009-01-17 23:56:00
I've already done some serious amounts of whinging on this blog about the ridiculousness that is driving in Australia, particularly Queensland, and the road rules that people are largely ignorant of. But in view of the fact that we have more overseas visitors coming to stay in a couple of weeks, it's time to compile all that negativity in one place and have done with it. To be clear about this, I have good grounds to be concerned for my innocent pommie friends who are, as yet, unaware of the dangers that await them on the treacherous roads of Queensland: So far since the new year (and 2009 is only 2 weeks old) there have 5 deaths on the roads in the Sunshine Coast region alone. The Australian media keep a running total of deaths on the roads in each state during the holiday periods as though they were reviewing the football scores. So whilst my friends are indeed coming from that famously perilous land of the M6 motorway and the M25 car park, they have yet to encounter the Austral...
