Zemanta — Easy Semantic Blogging for Everyone
2008-03-28 08:00:00
Alright. Via my google feed-reader I discovered this new service called Zemanta. I must say, it is kick-ass! It’s actually an odd plugin. When you install it into firefox(only available platform currently), and log into your blog(in my case a wordpress blog). It shows you a sidebar in your blog, right where you categories generally are. It tells you that after you write 300 characters it will give you content that is relative to your blogs. The more you right the more pictures, articles, and even tags it gives you. Zemanta is a very nifty program, I highly recommend you try it. Probably the best thing about zemanta is the fact that it can take your writing to the next level, by providing easily inserted pictures and content. The semantic layer that it provides is awesome. Another nifty feature of Zemanta is that it actually scans the web for Creative Commons Licensed content. So blogs will be able to post related images without the fear of being sued by angry artists and photo...

7 Ways to be Best Buds with an A-List Blogger!
2008-03-28 00:40:00
Wouldn’t it be nice to be best Friends with an A-list blogger? How about ten A-list bloggers? 1. Comment often - Commenting on A-List blogs is a good way to get your name in front of them.Remember they are regular people like you and me, the more they see your name, and see that you contribute to their site, the more likely they are to say yes when you try and offer a joint venture, or a guest post on their blog. *One big tip on this make your comments stand out, build upon the original post, and make your comment provide extended value to their site, and even cite other posts that back up what you say, and you will soon become an authority.* 2. Follow them on twitter, and respond to them often, many of the A-list bloggers are on twitter, and contribute frequently. The bottom line is the more you provide to the conversation, the more they see your name, the more likely you are to get noticed. 3. Blog, blog often, and make it count. If you do happen to get noticed by an A-lister...

The results of my Twitter Poll on Best Time to Blog! 26 replies.
2008-03-27 07:37:00
I had 26 responses to the following survey on twitter: “What time do you read your feeds the most, or see the most hits..” My findings were both what I thought it would be, with a few twists. I was pretty certain that Morning would be the best time of day. Other than that I wasn’t very certain. According to my small poll, I was correct -  12 of the people polled, said they read their feeds in the early morning usually between 6-9am. What I didn’t expect was for the second runner up to be the Night Crew(8pm - Midnight). There were 9 who reported the most activity @ Night. Third is also a surprise, because it’s a busy time, people are coming home, spending time with families, and eating dinner. But third place is Evenings between 5pm-8pm. There were8 who chose this option. Tieing for third was the mid morning group (9-11). 8 people also chose this option. 4th place was Afternoon (2-5pm). With 6 people. 5th Place was Noon and Late Night with 2 people. (No...

So Em-bare-assed! Just found out my feeds weren’t full!
2008-03-27 01:57:00
Don’t hate me - I totally just found out about this - kinda funny actually - but my feed should be showing full-posts now.  I am so embarassed I wrote about how important it is for full feeds, yesterday, and found out from a subscriber today that mine aren’t showing full feeds. I swear I’m not a hypocrite. lol.  Don’t worry I took care of that - please feel free to subscribe now.  I’d like to thank Rob Williams over at 170spoons.com for letting me know. Is 2008 the year of the Lifestream?
2008-03-26 19:29:00
Update: I forgot what year it is, updated 2007 to 2008 in title.   Life stream, I believe it was facebook who first came up with the idea. Now most social networks have it built in. Twitter, Pownce, Jaiku, simply are nothing more than a lifestream. Friendfeed and Socialthing both aggregate all of your feeds, and lifestreams. Friend feed recently announced the launch of an API which you can read about here, here, and here. Mashable did a good write up today listing 8 life streaming sites. Here’s the list: Correlate.us - has cool graphing features regarding your life stream. Friendfeed - Need I say more? Most talked about aggregator, combines most of your social networks, blogs, lifestreams into one. Iminta.com - currently in private beta, but offers 26 services. You can read a more detailed review here. Life2Front.com - has the goal of pushing virtually more content to your feed, than any other service out there. Currently in private beta. LiveZuu.com - Lifestrea...

Do you ever google yourself? (Sounds naughty, doesn?t it?)
2008-03-25 19:26:00
I have a question. Have you ever googled yourself, to see what all is out there on you? John Chow(393,000 results) and Darren Rowse(180,000) are huge names, they’ve branded themselves and you can find thousands of pages on them. (Be sure when googling a name to enclose it in “quotations” so it searches for the exact name). Have you thought of branding yourself? I personally try to use my name as often as possible. I use it as my username on most social networks, etc… It’s even my twitter id. I’d like to see how people rank for their names in the search engines - are you popular or famous? Go ahead and tell me what your google results are. I think this would be a fun experiment. My Google results are: 6,090. It’s no Darren or John, but its a nice start! By the way - I think it’s funny that JohnChow has so many listings, but JohnCOW actually is ranked #1 for the term ‘John Chow‘. Funny, huh? Related Posts April 4, 2008 ̵...

Partial feeds = Pissed Off Subscribers = No Subscribers
2008-03-24 20:15:00
Full feeds, are the ONLY way to Go! I wrote in my post “ Blogs need to eat too! Feed your blog with 39 ways to build your RSS Subscriber base. So easy a slackjawed yokel could do it!” one of the tips that I state to increase your subscribers is is to use full feeds, I’m going to expand on this a little further. There are 2 main reasons that opponents of this thinking cite as their reasons for using partial feeds. Using a partial feed forces the reader to visit their site - and essentially raise their stats, ranking, and bring in more money from advertisers. This may actually be true if you’re a large blog, with tons of great content like mashable.com, but for the small-time blogger, 90% of your readers are going to be too lazy to click on through and read the rest of your article. This hurts your credibility. You build credibility by writing awesome articles that everyone bookmarks, shares, and loves. If people can’t, don’t, or won’t read y...

Using RSS Feeds to Blow up the (Writers) Block!

Blogs gotta Eat Too! Here are 39 Great Ways to Feed Your blog so it Grows Educate Your Readers - How can they subscribe to an RSS Feed, if they don’t KNOW what an RSS Feed is?It is essential to discuss what an rss feed is, what a feed reader is, and how to subscribe, don’t assume your readers are the most tech savvy, go slow and have patience with them. You may also want to give them some links to feed reader programs and sites.Examples: What in Tarnation is an RSS FEED Fak3r Subscribe What is an RSS? What in the Heck is an RSS Feed?  Give them the Email Option. Feed readers are the rave, most of us know how to use them, and have a favorite feed reader, but not ALL of us. Insurance Rant - My Opinion of the Insurance Beast!

Insurance is something that society says we all need. Car insurance, Home insurance, car insurance, etc… It’s all about sharing our money with other’s in order to pay for the issues of the few and in-between, Insurance is nice when we need it, but in my opinion, the system is extremely over-bloated.
