Barack Obama: A More Perfect Union
2008-03-20 05:16:00
Although I'm not a Democrat, this speech moved me to tears. Simply beautiful. I'm not political because frankly, politics is a very divisive subject, but I had to post this video. I was very touched by Mr. Obama 's message here. Whether you're Democrat, Republican or Independent, I'm sure you'll agree that what this country---America---needs right now is healing and unity.

THINGS I HATE: Mannequins & White Rooms
2008-03-10 06:45:00
I'm judging a contest, and I'm not having a good time. No, not at all. And I'm NOT a book basher. Really, I'm not. I keep those evil little thoughts to myself .... usually. But I can't help it this time. And no, I will NOT name names or titles. I never will, not even if you threaten to shove razors up my toenails or worse ... force me to read a romance book with a secret baby in it... Okay, so

Preds, Eds and Lawsuits! Oh, my....
2008-03-10 06:19:00
Preditors and Editors, the writer watchdog group is being sued... To be honest, I'm surprised it hasn't already happened. Not that I'm siding with the sue-ees (is that a word?). It's just that given the extensive listing of publishers and agents they report on, (whether they're recommended or not) it's any wonder they haven't spent more time in court. I mean, it's a litigious society we live

Episodic Writing
2008-03-03 07:20:00
Ever heard the term before? If you haven't, you may want to check your manuscipt to make sure you're not doing it... In short, episodic writing is storytelling without a plot. It's a series of events 'full of sound and fury, signifying' squat. It's you leading your characters round and round the mulberry bush. In a previous post, I whined about NaNo hell and how difficult it was sifting

Wordless Wednesday ... Ginger or Mary Ann?
The Dreaded Synopsis
2008-02-25 06:52:00
Friend or Foe?... If you asked me about a year of so ago, I'd say FOE! But now I say friend. Writing a synopis BEFORE I commit word to screen (or in this particular case, notebook) helps me chart my course, keeps me on the narrow path. Do I deviate from it? Sure, but I know the path will always be there if I get lost. Now, that's my method, and it won't work for everyone. So what's yours?

WRITERS: The Routine
2008-02-20 07:02:00
Bzzz! Bzzz! The alarm goes off and... I get my son ready for the bus, see him off, then I grab a protein drink and a Red Bull, check email (sometimes), and after that, I write until noon. Once that's done, I either grab a nap, take a break with another beverage, or I check email. If I'm feeling really spirited I might continue to write. When the alarm goes off again, it's time to pick my

Here We Go Again....
2008-02-18 07:11:00
Same hero, different plot... I've read some authors who either manufacture the same hero, or the same plot, heroine, or internal conflict over and over again. That's not a bad thing necessarily. Some readers like recycled themes, and are loyal to certain authors because they know what they're getting. But other times, it just gets annoying. I mean, books aren't cheap, and I'm kinda sorta
Indian Women, Mills and Boon and Shah Rukh Khan
2008-02-18 06:35:00
When I read this, I was like ... WTF? Mills and Boon? Too brown MANDIRA NAYAR "New Delhi, Jan. 4: Shah Rukh Khan ’s six-pack abs are just right for steamy scenes, but research by Mills and Boon shows that despite his fairness cream endorsement, he isn’t white enough for Indian women..... Nano: The aftermath
2008-02-11 07:10:00
Did you participate in Nano ? If so, how are you doing? Me? I'm in hell... Call me a drama queen, but nothing is worse than opening up a file and seeing pig droppings. Hey, I'll be honest. Some of the stuff I wrote for NaNo is pretty much unsalvageable. At times, I look at what I've written and I just want to smack myself. Is bad writing better than no writing at all? Of course, the
