Tai Hing Congee and Noodle House in Richmond
2008-12-30 16:00:00 It snowed the night before. It was one of those mornings, you know. The air was chilly and we all wanted more than just cereals for breakfast. We wanted something warm, hot and I could see Suanne hinting under her breath that she wanted to not make breakfast that morning. She does it ever so subtly ... like commenting there are not enough eggs for everyone and that we are down to only two Costco croissants. LOL! The boys were too lazy to go out and so was I. The main problem was not so much as the drive and all ... it is because we gotta brush our teeth, take a bath and put on going-out clothes. That is Suanne's rules. It is like a formal event or something. Before we go out, Suanne will insist we all must, at the minimum, take a bath, brush our teeth, comb our hair and put on street cloths. This time she compromised ... she allowed us to go out "as is" as long as she does not have to make breakfast. Deal ... we said! More About: House , Hong Kong , Chinese , Richmond
Saffron Indian Cuisine on Kingsway, Burnaby
2008-12-29 15:05:00 I brought the project team out for a Christmas lunch just before Christmas. The choice of the lunch places is somewhat limited as I have now a few contractors from India who wanted vegetarian dish. Moreover, I was told that they had been going to the Curry Express stall at the Metrotown Food Court for their daily fix of curry. So, I know they will then enjoy Saffron . Saffron is located on 4300 Kingsway which is just walking distance away from the office. With all the snow still falling, no one was in the mood of driving anyway. Despite the fancy name (Saffron Indian Cuisine ), it is just a buffet place. More About: Indian cuisine

Happy Date Bakery and Restaurant on Park Road, Richmond
2008-12-02 17:24:00 Hey ... does anyone of you feel the economic hardship coming your way yet? Until now, I have not heard of anyone I know who had lost their job but me thinks it's the calm before the storm. So, we thought we should start looking at spending a bit lesser on dining out. When we think about budget, no frills meal, we often head off to Happy Date. It just dawned on us that despite being there so many times, we had never gotten down to blog on them. Happy Date is located on Park Road just off where the Richmond City Hall is. It is a very popular Hongkong Style eatery. Like many HK style cafes, they also have a bakery but I don't really think highly of their bakery. I much prefer the ones found in The Boss, Kam Do and particularly Lido. Chilli Padi on Fraser St, Vancouver
2008-12-02 06:12:00 We met up with Angie (of Sea Salt With Food) again for a Sunday lunch. We wanted to go for Indonesian and choose the Sweet Chili Cafe but it was closed on Sunday. Being already hungry and all set for hot and spicy South East Asian food, we went to the next place we can think of. A short drive to 41st and Fraser brought us to Chilli Padi . Chilli Padi is a Malay restaurant and located in the old location of Kedah House (another Malaysian restaurant). I describe Chilli Padi as a Malay restaurant as opposed to a Malaysian restaurant because it serves Malay food. Malaysian food encompasses a wider cuisine that includes Chinese and Indian cuisine. Tamarind Hill Malaysian Cuisine in New Westminster
2008-11-30 20:10:00 Suanne and I consider Ed and Christina from Doesn't Tazte Like Chicken as people with sharp mouth. No, I am not saying that they talks a lot. That is a literal translation from the Cantonese expression "Tsim Tsui". They know food very well alright. We had been meeting over dinners once every few weeks. It was our turn to select the location and this time, Suanne and I picked the Tamarind Hill Malaysian Cuisine located in New Westminster . The choice was a hands down choice for us as we know Malaysian food very well.
