Mira Nair ’s much-acclaimed film, 'The Namesake' has been snubbed by the Oscars much to the disappointment of the director. Mira in of her interviews proclaimed that “Hollywood suffers from color amnesia” and hence wasn’t surprised to a degree.  In fact director/friend Shekar Kapur also expressed disappointment over the Oscar snub for 'The Namesake though his leading lady, Cate Blanchett from 'Elizabeth—The Golden Age' has been nominated in the  Best Actress category.

NEW DELHI (Reuters Life!) - Actor and smoker Shah Rukh Khan has declined a request by the health minister that he quit cigarettes, at least on screen.Anbumani Ramadoss, the health minister, says the habits of celebrities such as Khan are an enormous influence on young people. But Khan, Hindi cinema's most bankable star, sees no grounds for censorship."I think there is a huge amount of creative freedom that should be allowed in cinema," he told a press conference broadcast on the Times Now news channel on Monday. "It is make-believe ... Shahrukh Khan  on Sunday was honored with the title of 'Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters' by the French government. Prior to the function in a suburban hotel, SRK said in an agency interview: "I came to know that people in UK knew me after I travelled there. But I never knew people in France also knew about me.""I am proud we have taken our culture and identity to France through the medium of our films," SRK said.When asked if he has seen French cinema, Shah Rukh said he used to go to the French Cultural Centre in Delhi to watch their movies since he was told it was the best cinema."But I also used to watch it for the lovemaking scenes," he said, showing his trademark candour.

Yesterday the Bachchan Parivar with extreme gusto inaugurated the Aishwarya Bachchan Kanya Mahavidyalaya School in Daulatpur village, about 63 km (39 miles) northeast of Lucknow.  Amitabh Bachchan agreed to sponsor the girls, after CNN-IBN reported how they were abandoned by their parents at a private boarding school a year back.Amitabh Bachchan said, “These were two very sweet innocent girls and I felt very bad and so I told CNN-IBN through my friend Amar Singh that I would like to pay fro their education if they don’t mind.”
