The most awaited Games you?ll never play. Ever
2008-05-18 06:47:00
A long history of successes in the games industry usually means a HUGE fanbase for the franchise. This means more people to buy games, more raves and positive (or negative) reviews and more requests(complaints) to add content, story and usually a new title under the franchise. To sate the fanbase mob, it’s common ...

2008-05-08 03:45:00
Summer vacation means Cosplay Convention. Sure there wasn’t one in April but May is the month for Manga holix. Last year’s event was a great treat especially to first time cosplayers. Too bad I didn’t get to register my costume that time, didn’t make it to the cut off. I’ll try to get in the cosplay list this time. To past attendees, since Mangaholix will no longer be held in the Music Hall of Mall of Asia, entrance will no longer be free. A blog revamp, banner advertising, and a forum on the loose
2008-05-07 08:03:00
As you may have noticed, Atma Xplorer is carrying a new design. It’s a trimmed down theme derived from FTW 2.0 by Flisterz. I’m still in the process of tweaking things so bear with me if you see some bugs, missing pages, etc. Sir Adii’s BlockMagazine theme (which I won from Blog ging Mix’s contest a while back) was quite a treat for my site but lately I ran into some problems concerning comments. URLs with #comment got redirected to an empty page or at least one where the entire post and comments are blank. I’m certain that this was caused by one or more of my plugins but I couldn’t find the right one even every overwriting my theme with a clean version so I took some time off work (and while working.. bad sylv3rblade) to create a new one; SlipStream. As you can see, I tried to carry over the color theme from Block Magazine because I’ve found it easy on the eyes and added some spice of my own. The huge banners above each post (they will...

Iron Man: Movie Review
2008-05-02 03:00:00
Iron Man, played by Robert Downy Jr and opened to theaters April 30th (May 2 on some parts of the Globe) is the Marvel-related offering from Paramount Pictures. I must say. I’m terribly impressed by the movie as a whole as well as to the minor details. Erm.. I haven’t done a movie review in a LONG while so please bare with me as I touch only the essential stuff and don’t go in depth with the background of the story. I’m not even THAT familiar with Iron Man’s back story. On with the review I was swooned over to the filmed versions of Marvel Comics classics ever since Spiderman entered the stage and set the standards (it’s up to you whether that’s a good thing or bad, it’s hollywood after all) for the 2D superheroes into the silver screen. Sure we’ve all seen Batman (who hasn’t there’s so many “beginnings” that I’m wondering if there’ll be multiple “endings” too) but he’s ...

Save yourself from Procrastination
2008-04-18 00:00:00
Procrastination will always been a difficult obstacle to overcome whether you’re a student, a working adult, a parent, or just a plain bum. Procrastination is next to human nature to some, which typically manifests as behavior that deferments any action, important or mundane to a later time. Filipinos have a special name to this attitude, the Maņa Habit. Procrastination hurts To the procrastinator, he or she may think that by putting things off until he’s in the “mood” to do them is a good thing because he’ll be able to have the motivation to work. In reality however, he or she is not only losing time to do his work but loosing the opportunity to do work. Confusing? Not really. Just think about it. While waiting for the opportunity to get motivated to come, there’s always the chance that it may not come at all which puts the procastinator in the position of cramming to the last second till the deadline. I’ll conceed that many people do...

Web services I can?t live without
2008-04-16 00:00:00
Web services have gone quite a long way from just being desktop-bound substitutes to full fledged, independent applications that we can’t do without. While they may not look as aesthetic or integrate well with our operating system (because most of the time, you’re still stuck with your browser), they keep us free from give freedom that would have otherwise tied us to a single computer forever. To the say the list, web services is both a convenience and a necessity. Convenience because you usually just need to have a compatible browser installed and an internet connection and necessity because a lot of web services now are simply those that we can’t live without. Here’s my list of top web services that I’d drop dead if I couldn’t use them. Delicious Making bookmarks available anywhere you go makes delicious at the top of my list. You don’t only get to keep those numerous important links handy, you get also to share them with friends. No...

Get Pandora without extra battery or Memory Stick
2008-04-04 00:00:00
A Pandora ’s Battery (Pandora Battery or just Pandora) is a sort of lifeline for PSP users with the who have Custom Firmware installed on their units. It’s basically a special service battery that, along with a magic memorystick, can downgrade and unbrick any psp. Instead having to throw your bricked units away, you can now bring your dead (bricked) PSP back to life and/or downgrade any firmware psp - safely. The homebrew community owes its roots to the Noobz! team for giving us such an amazing breakthrough. While it’s an absolute must to have a Pandora Battery, if you’re a novice to the PSP world though, making one is a daunting task which requires you to have an original Sony PSP battery and a spare memory stick. Luckily, an innovative Filipino has provided a way of doing away with both requirements. How? Read his Easy-to-follow guide for installation TABLE OF CONTENTS I. Do you know the CaramellDancen?
2008-03-29 00:00:00
The Caramel Dance or more popularly known as the Caramelldansen (it’s Swedish) is one of the biggest memes hit the internet, The music is by the Swedish music group Caramell and I seriously doubt that they expected the song to be THIS big. The Caramelldansen is also known as Popotan Dance, Popotan Dansen, Caramelldansen (SEO stuff), Caramel Dansen and Caramel Dance. If you’re searching for the video, you can use Popotan Dance video, Popotan Dansen video, Caramelldansen video, Caramel Dansen video and Caramel Dance video. Looks… weird o.O Even to a certified Otaku like me, the first time I saw the Caramelldansen, I was really dumbfounded as to how something so weird would be so popular. The image on the right is one of the first few images that started the mania out. Interested yet? The history of the Caramelldansen meme started with the Japanese PC Game Popotan released in December 12, 2002. Animated GIF files soon floated on the net after the anime started air...
Real or Fake? Debunking the Sony Memory Stick
2008-03-19 00:00:00
For most new PSP users, it’s always a dilemma when choosing what Memory Stick to buy. No, it’s not about capacity since 2GB and 4GB are the most bought capacities. It’s rather a choice between Original Memory Sticks and Class A (Fake ones) Memory Sticks. Now, both products work as advertised but they have their own advantages, To help you decide, here’s some reference on the difference between the two: Price over Quality Class A Memory Sticks are dirt cheap. If you know where to look, you can find capacities that cost less than half of original ones. While this is certain to sway most into buying cheap, take not that Class A memory sticks lasts shorter compared to original ones. This is due to several factors like materials used, production process, cost cutting etc. Original Sticks come with a good length of warranty too so if something happens, you can get it replaced, no questions asked. Advantage: Depends on what you’re looking for, price or...

Waiting for Crisis Core
2008-03-16 00:00:00
The Final Fantasy series is one of the most celebrated RPG titles known to hardcore gamers (if you’re looking for a Crisis Core download, come back here when it’s out, March 28). It’s list of titles are well-known for it’s epic stories (not battles no, that’s reserved for Devil Kings and Dynasty Warriors), memorable characters, intuitive battle systems and amazing graphics. The most well-known of the Final Fantasy series (at least for my part) is Final Fantasy VII because it’s the first of the series to land on the PlayStation platform. To date it’s still one of the most successful titles for the console in terms of sales. The popularity of Final Fantasy VII has even moved Square-ENIX a movie sequel called Advent Children (how many games has THAT), released in 2004 for the PSP, and an anime prequel Last Order: Final Fantasy VII. With fans clamoring for more, Square-ENIX released Dirge of Cerberus; a spin-off sequel (takes place after Adv...

Stop Impulse Buying
2008-03-14 00:00:00
With the country still swimming in economic crisis and the prices of goods still on the rise the only prudent thing to do is to keep a tight leash on your wallet. Sure, we all love to shop (honestly, I have to meet someone who doesn’t enjoy purchasing things) and impulse buying at a time like this can ruin your budget. Here’s a few reasons why: Impulse buying leads you to buy stuff you don’t really need If you’ve found something you really like but don’t have a pressing need for it then do yourself a favor and restrain yourself from whipping out your cash. Now if it’s a rare item that you’ve been looking for, do the purchase but otherwise don’t. You’ll save yourself quite a sum once you get the hang of it. Impulse buying leads to second or even third purchases of the same item Sounds confusing? Not really? Let’s say you’re looking to buy a gadget but haven’t planned for it and you suddenly see said item u...

Google search is drunk
2008-03-14 00:00:00
Yes.  I’ve had a lot of experience having Google give me a SERP page that displays none of the things I need but this one is special.  I was doing a favor for a friend who needed a deep background on horror fiction.  As a horror fiction nut (I have DVDs, novels and even posters to prove it), I have quite a lot of stories to share but to save time and effort I decided to do it the easy way… Google it. The other results we’re pretty much right on track but… Either Google Search is really drunk or someone hired the wrong person to do SEO. The things Google give us… hehe. © sylv3rblade for Atma Xplorer | Google search is drunk was originally posted on Atma Xplorer - Friday, 14th of Mar 2008 Want more on these topics ? God of War Entertainment Pack
2008-03-07 00:00:00
SCEA is really pulling out all the stops for God of War: Chains of Olympus with the announcement of the third, special edition PSP package.  The God of War Entertainment Pack a blood red (really it’s bloody over deep red) PSP color swap, a copy of Chains of Olympus, a UMD with Judd Apatow’s comedy blockbuster Superbad and a voucher to download Syphon Filter: Combat Ops from the PlayStation Store, for free.  Not a bad deal if you ask me especially at the price of $199.99. The bad part?  You have to wait till June to lay your hands on it.  Hmm.. I guess if things go right, I’ll get one as a gift to myself for my birthday. ^^ If you’re looking for God of War and Chains of Olympus Download, check my earlier post. © sylv3rblade for Atma Xplorer | God of War Entertainment Pack was originally posted on Atma Xplorer - Thursday, 6th of Mar 2008 Want more on these topics ? Kratos is Back: The most anticipated PSP Game is here
2008-03-07 00:00:00
God of War has left a lasting impression on PlayStation owners ever since the series’ debut on the PlayStation 2 on March 2005 and SCEA (Sony Computer Entertainment) gives the game and Kratos a fitting 3rd anniversary (or should it be birthday?) with the release of God of War: Chains of Olympus. The God of War series made it’s name by giving hardcore PlayStation fans a no holds barred game. An amazing battle system, awesome character designs, blatant nudity (well, yeah, most of the nudity is unnecessary but anyone calling himself a fan won’t complain), a catchy mythological backdrop, stunning visuals and dazzling animations. To those not familiar with the God of War mythos’ hero, Kratos, he’s a powerful Spartan warrior who that swore revenge against Ares (the God of War, ergo the name) for betraying him and for making him turn his sword on his wife and daughter. Brutal? Yes. Gory? Yes? Worth it? Hell Yeah! Chains of Olympus works as a prequel to t...

Look out: Spam from Gmail is coming

CAPTCHA?Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart?is an both an annoyance and a safety net for netizens. A large number of web services (blogger, gmail, yahoo mail, live hotmail to name a few), CAPTCHA is used to stop the automated registration of bots keeping it a human-only used service. While CAPTCHA has been proven quite effective from keeping bots (and some humans as well) away, over the past few years, hackers have been hard at work at cracking it’s security. With the successful hacking of Windows Live Mail’s CAPTCHA, Websense reports that Gmail has also fallen victim. Apparently, one out of five attempts at registration succeeds with the CAPTCHA-breaking request. Now that number may look at bit low but think of that 20% in terms of the hundreds (or thousands) of e-mail accounts that hackers will register at a time. It’s believed that there are four main advantages to breaking into Gmail. Signing up for a Gmail account give...

Online Etiquette 101 - Online Games
2008-02-26 00:00:00
Online Games has become part of the Pinoy gaming circle every since the Massive Multiplayer Online RPG, Ragnarok was introduced by Level Up Philippines into the wild. Like most of the current games in your favorite shop’s roster, it’s easy to play, appealing to it’s target audience and most of all, it gives players the chance to interact with thousands of players all at once. On a personal level, I think MMOs reinvigorated the video game industry by giving everyone the option of self-leveling (as most RPG nuts like) or party-ing. Because of it’s popularity though, you encounter many types of people that can either make or break your experience. Here’s my guide to surviving online games but first… How is Online Gaming different? The main difference of an Online Game from non-online ones is that most of the characters you’ll be encountering is controlled by an actual person. Sure there will be NPCs (Non Player Characters) like Weapon/Arm...
