The Consequences of Time
2009-01-24 19:50:00

Franko B - I'm thinking of you
2009-01-24 17:50:00
tratto dal comunicato di Eugenio Viola - "Franko B?s visionary and oppressive sensibility taps into the great iconographic tradition of the memento mori and into spirituality of horror that characterizes the deadly, counter-reformed Baroque. The equilibrium of the composition of his work sends, however, back to a more classical, formal ideal, returns to the brutality of our times, but, at the same time, expresses a existential breath, recalls the tenderness of human heart, which unravels all his being in the world.I Miss You, Long Live Romance, Don?t Leave Me This Way, these are the titles of some Franko B?s performances. Actions that, beyond the pictorial nature of the aesthetic impact, opens to a romantic meditation, to the desire investigated through different tones: separation, solitude, fear of being abandoned, submission?A work ultimately presenting itself as an enormous, unconditioned act of love: I?m thinking of you.":: CHANGING ROLE - MOVE_OVER_GALLERY ::

The Pre-Raphaelites
2009-01-22 21:50:00
"The paintings of the Pre-Raphaelites shocked contemporary society and still fascinate today. The members of the group, which was active in England in the mid-19th century, turned against what they perceived as the insipid, artificial artistic ideals of the day, instead seeking earnestness and honesty in art.And indeed, in their depictions of contemporary England they instilled a social commitment that was as radical as it was strong. Many of their paintings also show historical scenes of love, passion, life and death. In style, their work is noted for its predominantly decorative idiom, making use of brilliant, clear colours and a stylised ideal of beauty. The border between dream and reality is frequently blurred."The Pre-Raphaelites - Nationalmuseum.se
SECOND HAND
2009-01-22 21:46:00
All of us, at one time or another, have taken liberty with images that we come across in newspapers or magazines, with posters pasted on street corners or the packaging on our dinner tables. The same curiosity and youthful irreverence that provoked Marcel Duchamp to delicately deface a reproduction of La Joconde almost a century ago has encouraged generations of artists since to make their own marks on the images that surround them. There are many examples of such activity, and this exhibition can only provide a glimpse of the ways in which artists today are working to make sense of, and stir our awareness of, the bombardment of visual images to which we are continually subjected. engholm engelhorn galerie

PLAYING THE CITY
2009-01-22 21:27:00
"How does the public participate in political debate? What makes up public opinion? What is meant by public space? The significance of the social plays a central role in the discourse of art. Terms such as participation, collaboration, social turn, or community-based art have noticeably influenced both the production and reception of art in recent years. The exhibition project Playing the City is an attempt to open up public space as a collective, free, and configurable space. Roughly twenty international artists, including David Byrne, Ulf Aminde, Dara Friedman, Dora Garcia, Rirkrit Tiravanija, and Sharon Hayes, will turn downtown Frankfurt into a site of numerous activities and situations, ranging from performances to guerrilla actions. At the same time, an office and exhibition space, where all the actions will be organized, logistically managed, commented on, and documented, will be set up in one of the Schirn?s galleries.Curator: Matthias Ulrich"PLAYING THE CITY - EXHIBITIONS - S...
Experimenta FOLKLORE

"The group exhibition Experimenta FOLKLORE concerns the phenomenon folklore as a musical element within contemporary art production. The title of the project refers to the 'Experimenta' series that was founded in Frankfurt in the 1970s and conceived as an international, experimental and boundary transcending theatre festival. It is considered to have been an important influence on the experimental music scene of that time.Folklore can have both a mythical element as well as still contain the capacity to grapple with the worldly traditions of everyday life and the significance that advanced technology has in a post-modern world."?Experimenta FOLKLORE? presents works of Olaf Breuning, Sung Hyung Cho, Marie-Clémence & Cesar Paes, Factotum, Jeremy Deller & Alan Kane, Uro?
